WQSB--Alabama’s Country Giant WQSB 105.1 was named Radio Station of the Year recently at the Alabama Broadcasters Association Best in Broad-casting Awards Presentation.
Owner Pat Courington, Jr. is president of Sand Mountain Broadcasting Service, which owns the Albertville stations WQSB-FM and WAVU-AM. The stations have been broadcasting for over 60 years. Courington gave credit for the stations award to his employees, stating “they work harder than most radio folks.”
The Radio Station of the Year Award is chosen by fellow broadcasters, which is a hard award to win.
General Manager of the station, Tommy Lee, said that the staff’s commitment to community service sets them apart from other stations. Lee says “Most of our employees are from around here. They’re home-grown and very much into the community and the people. We’re involved in everything within a four county area.” This seems to pay off for the station because the listeners show up and support them no matter what they’re promoting, on and off the air.
Barry Galloway and Jenna Sue, both from the WQSB morning show won individual awards too. Barry, the voice of the Albertville High School football team, won Small Market Sportscaster of the Year and Jenna Sue won Small Market Advertisement of the Year.
Congratulations to all of the WQSB staff! We are proud that you serve our area! |
